New Playlist Alert: Rise Up Down Under

The game of soccer as it’s known in the USA, football to the rest of the world, has been gaining traction in this country for decades. American players like Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan, Mia Hamm, Tim Howard, Julie Foudy, Brandi Chastain, Abby Wambach, and Christian Pulisic have broken through the anti-soccer zeitgeist and helped popularize the “World’s Game” ahead of the FIFA Men’s World Cup coming to North America in 2026. It doesn’t take much to see that the landscape of sport is shifting in the United States.

And while it’d be easy to ride the coattails of Lionel Messi coming to MLS, we’re going to focus on the incredible United States Women National Team (USWNT) as they gear up for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

This team is so much more than a group of talented players. They’ve led the fight for reform within women’s football and continue using their platform to advocate for human rights while also being a dominant force in the sport. After winning in 2015 and 2019, the USWNT is trying to be the first team in World Cup history to win the trophy three times in a row… to go back to back to back.

But it ain’t going to be a walkabout in the park.

Co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, this will be the largest Women’s World Cup in history with loads of fierce competition. The team is coming back from a tough 2020 Olympics and they’ve lost multiple key players to injury in the lead-up to the tournament. So in support of the 2023 USWNT as they head Down Under, we’ve put together a playlist of tracks inspired by some of the hallmarks of this team: strength, unity, resilience, perseverance, and of course, a bit of swagger.

Rise Up Down Under features energetic hip-hop, inspirational strings, driving riff rock, genre mash-ups, and more. Win, lose, or draw, we’ll continue to support and celebrate the impact of the USWNT on and off the pitch. But we wouldn’t say “no" to a three-peat either.

As legendary commentator Ian Darke would say, “Go, go, USA.
