See You Someday (EP)

Flowing melodies and harmonies intertwine in three emotionally stirring, stripped down acoustic duets. (LMTL-045)

“Make a rule then break it
After all you can't resist”

The opening lines of See You Someday sets the stage for an EP that is so much more than two voices and an acoustic guitar.

While those ingredients are all that the pair of Alec Shaw and Zan Fiskum need to deliver such sentimental duets, those lyrics give the listener a preview of the subtle beauty and emotionally rich scenes captured on this release.

The three songs on See You Someday (LMTL-045) are true duets. It isn’t just a matter of having two people sing together. They bring the song’s characters to life, engaging in a dialogue that often feels like reading handwritten letters from long distance partners.

Front and center are the vocals of Shaw and Fiskum. They fluently trade lines and melodies throughout, picking up where the other left off in a seamless dance. Shaw showcases how delicate his soulful rasp can be as Fiskum’s warmth and flowing style rounds out the duo’s effortless harmonies.

Recorded live at London Bridge Studio in Seattle, WA, these love songs steer clear of the saccharine. Instead they mirror the romantic charm and introspective comfort that comes with a rainy day, displayed in the following lyrics from “You’re All That I Need”:

“Chamomile and blankets
And the books you hardly read”

Capturing these songs with a minimalist mindset preserves the familiarity found between the performers and songwriters. It’s an intimate approach to indie folk that produces a timeless sound that scores dramatic scenes so well.
