flowing, spacious, ambient, pedal steel (3ING-071)

No longer just a classic country staple, the pedal steel’s emotional versatility inspired our team to branch out and explore new worlds. The layers upon layers of warm, ambient atmospheres we discovered are like nothing else in our production music catalog.

Composed and performed by Nashville musician Philippe Bronchtein (The War & Treaty, Esmé Patterson), Liquid Layers builds lush soundscapes from beautiful pedal steel melodies. The expressiveness of the instrument is magnified by the addition of (License Lab creative director) Daniel Holter’s sound design elements and mix, giving a unique panoramic treatment to each song on the album. Dreamy tracks like “Gliding Over Dogwoods” shimmer and hang in the air above you, while “Ripple Water” bounces with light percussive elements as the melody floats on the surface.

Melancholy, flowing, and spacious, Liquid Layers (3ING-071) plays well over nature programming, summoning images of icy landscapes, underwater exploration, or an approaching storm front, while also working as a backdrop to emotional dramas and human documentaries.

If you’re a fan of Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno, the Susan Alcorn Quintet, Chuck Johnson, or SUSS, this record occupies a unique space within their collective orbit.
