Vinyl Vibes

Mid-Century Vibraphone Jazz, from smoke-stained sheet music in your band director’s mallet bag (ACPM-023)

The newest release from Analog Champion takes a trip back in time to revive some seriously smooth vibraphone jazz. You’ll be transported to a 60’s cocktail lounge, full of colorful drinks, low lighting, and all the swank that comes with it.

At the heart of Vinyl Vibes (ACPM-023) is a trio that features Devin Drobka on the drum set, John Christensen on the upright bass, and David Miller brings the vibes on vibraphone (you can also hear him adding some guitar).

Recorded live in the same room, these three talented jazzers channel the laid back lounge music vibes (pun intended) into tracks that range from tropical bossa beats to smoky, sensual, slow dances. A few guests sit in on the set, adding in Jamie Breiwick on trumpet and Nick Zoulek on saxophone. Shake (or stir) it all together and you’ve got a cocktail of authentic performances that feature the playful charm and mellow tones of the vibraphone.

With a niche genre like Vinyl Vibes, these tracks fit in seamlessly within era-specific films of the 60’s and 70’s, and creative marketing spots that have a late night, relaxed feel that call for some retro cool jazz. And let’s not forget those spy movie throwbacks, comedic or otherwise.

Put this record in the jukebox next to Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, Esquivel, and maybe even the Austin Powers soundtrack.
