Under My Wing
hope, reflection, dreams, tender, inspire (UND-63)
Listen to interviews with successful artists, athletes, entrepreneurs, and you’ll often hear stories about their mentors. They take on many forms, but mentorship is rarely loud or overt (unless you’re on a reality TV show). It’s more about gently guiding someone, providing support or a soundboard, and just helping another human grow.
Under My Wing (UND-63) evokes hope and friendship through rising acoustic pop arrangements. Composed by Alec Shaw, this record nurtures an undertone of reflection and encourages growth by fostering a solid foundation of evocative piano, tender guitar, and simple percussion. Add in gorgeous string touches from Abby Gunderson (seen here performing with her brother, Noah Gunderson, and Phoebe Bridgers) and the warmth and soul of tracks like “Further Than You Thought” begin to glow with potential.
Just as a true friend and mentor doesn’t sugarcoat the truth, the tone of Under My Wing stays genuine and thoughtful, never straying into sappy or saccharine with a healthy mix of modern indie ballads and flowing folk pop. This humanly inspiring soundtrack maintains the drama of a journey while holding on hope, fitting well in heartfelt scenes of romantic comedies, moments of growing resolve in hospital dramas, or advertisements with a focus on care and humanity.
