Trending
(4 min read)
We’ve been ahead of a number of trends over the years. From our first K-Pop album arriving weeks ahead of the pistachio-slinging Psy and “Gangnam Style”… to Moombahton and Yacht Rock being locked and loaded in our catalog well before a new (or revival) trend hits.
Our ten unique labels are chock-full of hidden gems that can not only separate your edit from the pack but also stay on top of industry trends. For some productions it’s ok to take a risk, other times it makes the most sense to ride the wave and give the people what they want.
We have plenty of both. Play it safe or gamble. But choose wisely.
For the latest in production music trends and predictions, our friends at Universal Production Music UK have analyzed their data and shared some massively useful information. The knowledge is dropped in their LinkedIn newsletter The Inside Track, available in a two-minute video along with a slightly more detailed walk-through of the data points. Either way, it’s a quick and effective way to get data-driven insight.
We highly recommend you check it out to get the details. And once you do, here are a few records from our labels that just so happen to fit the trends and keywords :
“Italian”
Who are we to argue with the timeless sounds of Italy? Old World Cafe (3ING-022) features the charming, traditional Italian sounds of mandolin, accordion, and nylon string guitar.
Picture yourself stepping off a plane and into a gondola, surrounded by friendly folks and enchanting architecture. And we can’t forget about the food and wine. Like a good meal, the authenticity and simplicity of this album are executed to perfection, making it a top option for any story that touches the vineyards of Florence or the streets of Rome.
“Golf”
Did someone yell “FORE”? To be honest, this search trend took us a little by surprise. But when golf is in the headlines you have to be ready to hit the links.
What do you hear when you think of golf?
We’re drawn to the pride, challenge, legacy, and competition that come with every major tournament. Taking Flight (MOPM-046) ticks all of those boxes, fueled by live strings and piano. Depending on the stage of competition, tracks also include varying levels of horns and percussion that can match the moment.
“Violin”
You can’t go wrong with a classic. Violins and strings are so organically emotive and dynamic that the options here are quite plentiful and varied. For the plucky and quirky, try String Smarts (OSPK-086). The swelling arrangements of Stories In Scores (DAA-017) explore a narrative-driven side of the instrument—perhaps more supportive, but irreplaceable. Uplifting Strings (OSPK-067) is an excellent accompaniment for inspirational journeys, featuring tracks that truly soar.
And for a bonus curveball, why not try the spirited and spicy fiddle of Gypsy Folk (ACPM-008)?
Future Possibilities
Whether it be globally-inspired tracks or unexpected genre mashups, nothing about these predictions feeds the status quo. Fresh, ear-grabbing sonics can inspire a trend, feed off youthful energy, or play off nostalgic throwbacks. We don’t pretend to have a crystal ball, but perhaps some of these options will inspire you to take a leap, to try something nobody else has, to be the trend-setter.
