There are few things that are certain in this world, but you can always count on Immortal Girlfriend releasing new music that will push the boundaries of the band’s sonic direction just a little bit more.

Brothers Will and Kevin Bush have the unique ability to make significant alterations to their sound while also remaining 100% true to their identity as Immortal Girlfriend. From the Daybreak EP to RIDE, the band honed their songwriting and established their signature style, embracing memorable melodies that glide over laser focused synth beds and sequences. Will’s emotive vocal performances have a measured resilience and desperation, taking the intimacy of a whisper and adding in a touch of nocturnal swagger.

“Seeker” builds on all of those elements to create a track that plays with the dynamic structure they established on previous releases and delivers an ear worm of a melody that will stick with you through wherever your day takes you. The verses strip away the lush beds to highlight the vocals, a stark contrast to their usual hazy place in the mix. It’s an unexpected departure, but a welcome one. Whereas the vocals were previously treated as a melodic synthesizer, they have emerged from the clouds to deliver a statement.

There is an extra edge that echoes the lyrical content, complimenting each other with additional attention to the intention of the song. The cinematic drama that accompanied previous Immortal Girlfriend releases that often took the form of instrumental interludes has now been incorporated as well, giving newcomers to the band a complete picture of their sonic style in just over 5 minutes. It’s a powerful statement to start off a new year. While so many musicians and artists grapple with how to continue their crafts, Immortal Girlfriend have plowed ahead and confidently declare that they know exactly what they’re doing.
