On My Way Up (EP)
Contemporary R&B for unstoppable queens on and off the court, empowering dramas and branding, fronted by smooth female vocals with a low-key confident backdrop. (LMTL-049)
There is an undeniable rise in the visibility of women’s sports. The performances of Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark helped bring more eyes from the inescapable glory of the 2024 Women’s NCAA tournament to the WNBA as league attendance and viewership records continue to be broken. Angel City FC, an NWSL team that took the field for the first time in 2022, was valued and purchased by Bob Iger and Willow Bay for $250 million. And that’s just domestically in the United States.
These examples merely scratch the surface, prompting pundits and podcast hosts to echo refrains that include phrases like,“Women’s basketball is having a moment.”
But if you listen to the athletes themselves, the women who put up mind-boggling performances night after night, the superstars who have been executing at an elite level for decades, there is one thing that needs to be made clear:
It’s not a moment, it’s a movement. And this movement is only moving in one direction… up.
On My Way Up (LMTL-049) is a celebration of the indisputable talent, drive, and determination that has been happening in women’s sports for a long time… the world is just catching up. Led by silky smooth and flowing female vocals from Zahara Williams, contemporary R&B backdrops channel a low-key confidence that embraces new fans with a welcome that says “Come on in, we’ve been waiting for you.”
These fully produced songs feature hooks and lyrics that showcase the belief and focus of an athlete on and off the court. From halftime background stories and player highlight packages to personal branding, endorsements, and signature sneakers, these three tracks are not over-the-top anthems (tho we’ve got plenty of those on our HypeKit promo label), but melodies and grooves that shine with a balance of unflappable belief and grit.
“On my way up
You can’t bring me down
Never give up
Come right back around”
So don’t be shy, get on board with a soundtrack that echoes the statement on the viral shirts often sported from TOGETHXR (a company founded by legends Alex Morgan, Chloe Kim, Simone Manuel, and Sue Bird): Everyone watches women’s sports.
