Fragile Indie Folk
Instrumental indie sketches from a songwriter's bedroom or cabin, with acoustic and electric textures, balancing hope, melancholy, and movement to score emotional dramas and reflective human stories. (E&E-031)
While the folk revival of the late 00s may be waning, the indie styles and subgenres that emerged continue to provide an effective vehicle for storytelling. Introspection, warmth, and some earthy folk elements go a long way with the right visual production. But only when it’s genuine. Tracks inspired by the purest moments of indie songwriting, the sketches that occur in the solitude and safety of a bedroom or cabin, these fragile ideas flourish when set in the right environment.
We’ve assembled a trio of indie folk composers to bring Fragile Indie Folk (E&E-031) to life. New TLL composers Ehren Ebbage (Lizzy McAlpine) and Tyler Fortier (Jeffrey Martin, Anna Tivel) join longstanding creative partner Christopher Porterfield (Field Report, DeYarmond Edison with Justin Vernon) to create modern folk that ranges from inspirational to melodramatic, dynamic to atmospheric.
On a few songs we’ve also added session musicians Allee Fütterer (Mayer Hawthorne, The Astronots) on bass, and got additional drums and percussion from Jason McGerr (Death Cab For Cutie).
Delicate piano, folksy banjos and mandolins all balance out the layers of acoustic guitars and electric textures that cover a variety of emotional, dramatic territory on Fragile Indie Folk. “Daybreak At The Campground” has plenty of edit points as it builds to a feel-good peak while “Question Everything and Everyone” is cloudy, mysterious, and ready to set out down a lonely path.
These tracks can easily occupy similar emotional space as recent Taylor Swift and The Lumineers records, fitting right into soundtracks for programs like This Is Us, Parenthood, or simply as acoustic underscores for emotional/caring commercial spots.
