Finger Stylings
peaceful, fingerstyle, playful, warmth (3ING-076)
The acoustic guitar holds a unique ability to translate a wide range of human emotions. And though it can be part of a larger ensemble, there is an even greater magic when the spotlight shines solely on the six-stringed instrument, unadorned and bare.
Composer Philippe Bronchtein (The War & Treaty, Esmé Patterson) brings the guitar to life on Finger Stylings (3ING-076), utilizing a bare bones approach by playing, as title suggests, fingerstyle. There are a few supporting characters along the way, but this isn’t some riff on “Classical Gas”—far from it.
Energetic, folksy rhythms open the album, giving way to a lonely ballad on “Springtime Spaces” that leans into the impact a minimalist approach to the acoustic guitar can have. Continuing on the emotional color wheel, the acoustic blues shows the fun and playful side of the instrument on tracks like “Easy Street Shuffle” and “Blue Sky Boogie” all while maintaining a clear emotional narrative.
The practical applications for these acoustic guitar centered tracks (and their NARR versions that remove the album’s minimal additions such as bass or piano) can fit into a variety of programming including human dramas, travel documentaries, and straight up acoustic underscores for advertising and corporate messaging.
