Lies & Deception II

Nefarious deeds with questionable intentions, unlocking secret vaults while staying one step ahead (MOPM-091)

We think we know when others are lying, that reading body language and instincts are enough to find the truth. But as evidenced by countless true crime character testimonies for criminals of every shape and size, that simply is not true. If you don’t believe it, check out Malcolm Gladwell’s book Talking To Strangers for detailed case studies that illustrate how nefarious deeds can easily go unnoticed or rationalized away, and innocent people can just easily be misidentified as guilty. It’s terrifying, fascinating, and will leave you with more questions than answers.

For every puzzling case of fact or fiction that leaves us scratching our heads, Lies & Deception II (MOPM-091) utilizes reserved atmospheres full of false steps to accent the questions. Composer Sam Ecoff creates a futuristic, suspenseful, and mysterious soundtrack with technologically driven backdrops, sprinkled with organic instrumentation such as hand percussion and the occasional string swell.

Tracks like “Layers Of Lies” have a cerebral quality, full of tension and curiosity. The cautious synthesizers also have a playful quality that gives life and movement to a subdued scene. Mixing in a bit of retro, detective-esque guitar, “Defiance Of Norms” activates the investigation with subtle melodies that flow in and out of the pulsing background. There are no massive suspense points on this record, but the underlying pressure is enough to keep the audience on the edge of their seats.
