Under My Bed

moody, dark, angst, dramatic, pop (UND-58)

It seems like you can put whatever word you want in front of “Pop” or “Indie” these days. Some may call it excessive and unnecessary, but we find they can give more nuance to these absurdly broad genres (when used responsibly). With that in mind, we welcome you to the dark world of Doom/Goth Pop.

Under My Bed (UND-58) takes the drama and angst of a teenage bedroom, adds some sparse modern production, and emerges from the darkness with a moody, haunting, seductive pop soundtrack that feels kind of bad... in a good sort of way. Composer Kory Burrell (Dogwood Last) has delivered melodramatic pop gold that amplifies the alluring nature of the night while balancing rich and ASMR-inspired textures.

Dripping with anticipation and confidence, “Mister Sinister” features futuristic synth pop and enticing non-lyrical siren harmonies. Several tracks on Under My Bed have similar vocal treatments to enhance the mysterious and sensual qualities of the music, but of course instrumental (“NO-VOC”) versions are also available.

On the funkier side of the doom spectrum we move to the aptly titled “Good To Be Bad.” A bit more chilled, dirty electric piano hits a melancholy vibe that feels quite empowering when combined with guitar and a mid-tempo beat.

This album explores the emerging Doom Pop genre, heading down dark rabbit holes filled with makeshift sampled percussion, full on pop bangers, and a doom ballad that crosses all sorts of genre lines.

Fans of Billie Eilish, Lorde, BLACKPINK, and Halsey will resonate with these nocturnal, dramatic tracks, finding easy placement opportunities within fashion/luxury brands along with urban dramas and dystopian futures.
