Pop Chart

Dreams come to life through futuristic pop mashups, fusing youthful trends and touches of funk with vocal hooks and catchy instrumentals.(HK-24)

The sound of pop music is always evolving. But at the heart of so many chart-topping songs over the years is a ubiquitous sense of romance. That romance can take on many forms including ballads, heartbreak, teenage bubblegum, desire, celebrations of new love, to name a few. And while we’ve explored subgenres of pop before on HypeKit like Latin Pop (HK-19) and Hyperpop (HK-20), this time we’re following the current sounds of the charts and channeling timeless notions of simple romance.

Pop Chart (HK-24) bridges electro pop and funky flavors to create a bold, dreamy sound that leaves the listener feeling satisfied and hopeful. Composed by Julian Anderson, Forrest Reed, and Aaron Wittrock, this record features catchy, futuristic vocal melodies and synth elements while memorable bass lines bring the bounce and swagger.

Though tracks like “Feels So Right” have a carefree quality that may be better suited for a beach rather than a club, album opener “Lights And Sounds” has plenty of fire and punch. No matter the tone or tempo, the sense of romance comes through in confident, euphoric, and sentimental chord progressions and lush, synth-driven atmospheres. It’s a reminder that young love is so endearing because of its simplicity and that sometimes life can feel like a dream.

We hear Pop Chart finding a place in youthful ads, emotional dramas, luxury brands, and late night features. But fans of Tame Impala, The Weeknd, and M83 will hear how pop with a little extra character can go wherever your heart takes you.
