New Playlist Alert: Child's Play
For all of your cutesy advertising spots full of children, products for children, and parents running after children, we present a new playlist called Child’s Play.
Flip on the tube and during any given commercial break, there will be at least one advertisement that has to do with children. Whether a child is getting an inconceivable amount of mud on their clothes so the newest, best, strongest, softest, sensitive-skin friendly, fresh scented laundry detergent can swoop in and save the day. Or the kid needs to eat some delicious chunky soup or cereal that is full of sugar… odious amounts of sugar. They all center around our children and the “surprises” they bring or things they need.
But there’s nothing quite like the unbridled enthusiasm and creativity of a child with no filter, full of worlds to build, adventures to be had, and dreams to explore. And there tends to be a distinctive sound to compliment all these fantastical elements, even when they involve a terrible mess.
The imagination soars over a backdrop of carefree whistles, playful percussion, and (of course) twinkly bells. With a few sonic surprises thrown in there, whimsical and fanciful playtime has got a new soundtrack.
Here are a few of our favorite standout tracks :
“Making Donuts and Memories”
We’re getting things going with a bouncy ukulele, a simple and catchy whistled melody, and some very unexpected moments. This one really captures the spirit of creativity, going down imaginative rabbit holes, even if it does lead to a kazoo solo breakdown. #kazoosolo
“Eyebrow Up”
Nothing to see here, just a rather suspicious bassoon, mischievous pizzicato strings, and a variety of bizarre sound effects. There are plenty of breaks in the song, as though our diminutive assailant is stopping from time to time to see if anyone is watching the heist go down. Even if that heist is for cookies.
“Toddler Twister”
This name says it all. A highly energized, syncopated bass line leads the way as a frantic drum beat joins in with layers of keys and guitars, all adding to the madness and movement. It’s a sugar rush of excitement fueled by the third piece of birthday cake. Thanks grandpa.
