Buick Audra is not one to shy away from her demons. She confronts them in ways that range from raucous defiance to quiet contemplation, reflection, and release. Her lyrics read like a journal of personal narratives and visually stimulating autobiographical poetry. No matter the genre, dynamic, or story, Audra’s melodies contain an infinite number of subtle earworms that cement her message into your consciousness. And those messages are amplified even further by her passionate, dynamic vocal performances. All of this is as true with her hard rock duo Friendship Commanders as it is with her first solo release in 10 years.

“All My Failures” was produced by Audra with mixing by Trina Shoemaker (Indigo Girls, Josh Ritter, Brandi Carlile) and features a band comprised of Audra, Jerry Douglas, Bryan Sutton, Lex Price, and Jerry Roe.

The ballad’s darker themes are balanced by light, Bluegrass instrumentation and a bounding, catchy chorus. Mandolin and guitar harmonics set the stage with movement that captures the delirium of waking from a dream only to have your head spin out of control. We never lose that forward momentum and urgency, even as a softer groove guides us through the aftermath.

The song documents Audra’s nighttime panic attacks and the endless queries and accusations of what could have been. The questions that keep you up at night, the answers your own mind feeds you, the resilience of those poisonous thoughts, they cycle through the track while the melody weaves through them all with grace and spirit.

It’s a beautiful re-introduction to Buick Audra as a solo artist as she continues to document her battles in brilliant songs, letting us know that no matter the struggle or demon we face, we’re not alone.
